About Maya Bernstein

Maya's writing has been published in By the Seawall, Gashmius Magazine, the Harvard Business Review, Lilith Magazine, Pensive: A Global Journal of Spirituality and the Arts, the Stanford Social Innovation Review, Tablet Magazine, Vita Poetica, and elsewhere.

She is the founding co-director of the Institute for Transformational Leadership’s Certificate in Facilitation at Georgetown University, the Director of Leadership Education at Yeshivat Maharat, and is on the global faculty of the Masa Leadership Center. A founder of UpStart Lab, which brings bold Jewish ideas to life, Maya has consulted globally on leadership and innovation processes. A 2012 Covenant Pomegranate Prize recipient, Maya holds an MFA in Writing from Sarah Lawrence College, an M.Ed from Harvard's Graduate School of Education, and a B.A from Columbia College. She serves as a board member at Yetzirah: A Hearth for Jewish Poetry.

Maya’s debut album of original tunes to traditional texts, “Shiviti,” with Noah Solomon, was released in 2021, her second, "The Whole Soul," was released in 2023, and her first collection of poetry is There Is No Place Without You (Ben Yehuda Press, 2022). Maya grew up in NY and Jerusalem, and began her career on Sesame Street. She currently lives in Yonkers, NY with her family.
